Paisley Diaries: Live in Los Angeles at The Metaphor Club

Last Fall, soulhead founder Ron Worthy and acclaimed author and pop critic Miles Marshall Lewis, sat down to discuss Prince and his complicated relationship with hip-hop. This event, which was held at the popular South Central Los Angeles Metaphor Club, was attended by die hard Prince fans as well as music lovers curious to learn more about the artist and his history with rap music. Prince’s childhood friend and bandmate, André Cymone, was in attendance as well.

After a brief introduction by Metaphor partner Lawrence Gilliam, Miles read an excerpt from the first part (of three) of his essay “Silly Rappers Talking Silly.” Upon conclusion, Miles and Ron sat down to talk in more detail. The near hour long conversation spanned the totality of Prince’s career and offers an in-depth look at his thoughts about and experiments with rap music.
