Major crowds are expected for this funeral and DC’s Mayor Gray has confirmed that flags will be flown at half staff to commemorate the life and contributions of the late great Chuck Brown to the City.
Based on our knowledge of the city, we think Verizon Center or even DAR Constitution Hall could be good locations. The newly renovated Howard Theater near the U Street Corridor could also be a possibility. We will see. Whatever the locale, it will take a while to make a decision since the Verizon Center is privately owned vs. a city owned facility.

I think someone who means so much to this city should have a homegoing at a venue that would resemble more of what he meant to us and since the Capital Centre is no more, I think the only place to have it would be RFK stadium, plenty Parking and Metro. Chuck was DC to us and what venue says DC more than RFK?

I was privaledged shortly after moving to DC in November 2011 to run into Chuck at a 7/11. When i shouted out at him (after know of him for over 30 years) “I love you Chuck”, he shouted back “I love you to baby” man what a peoples person and a innovator and crowd mover. He will definately be missed but he left a lifetime legacy for all to enjoy, surely the homegoing must be at one of the largest facilities DC can offer cause it’s going to be a Party… Rest In Peace my Brotha. Job well done!!!

I agree. National Field would be a totally appropriate sendoff for this NATIONAL treasure. The national weather service can predict rain up to two weeks. Plan it for a day when rain is not an issue. But so what if it rains, I will STILL be there. Love you, Chuck, 4ever.

Why don’t they have the funeral at RFK Stadium. There is plenty of parking, metro station is nearby. You can set up stages for some local bands can play music. Overall that I think is the best location because there won’t be too much traffic problems.
