For heads in the know, Amerigo Gazaway always comes correct. From his trailblazing mashup efforts featuring Yasiin Bey/Marvin Gaye as well as trailblazing efforts combining the brilliant work of The Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest, this cat always brings quality productions and interpretations.
This effort is no different. Beginning with the Biggie Smalls’ instantly recognizable bars from the original (and some say Top 5 remixes of all time) remix of Craig Mack‘s classic “Flava In Ya Ear“, the track provides that classic Golden Era boom bap knock that makes your neck hurt. The beat provides a bouyant quality that supports Mack’s lyrics through to joint’s conclusion. Although Gazaway’s remix strips away notable 16s from Rampage, L.L. “blowticious” J and the bombastic Busta Rhymes, we appreciate the minimal approach and love this rework.
Kudos to Gazaway on this dope tribute to a well loved track and emcee. R.I.P. Craig Mack
