For years now, producer and DJ Amerigo Gazaway, has been creating some of the most amazing mashups and mixtapes that have combined newer artists with classic artist. Some of the hottest that come to mind are A Common Wonder (Common/Stevie Wonder), Fela Soul (Fela Kuti/De La Soul), and Yaasin Gaye (Yaasin Bey/Mos Def/Marvin Gaye). If you have not listened to these, you owe yourself an afternoon to take it all in. In short, with Gazaway, 1+1 = 10! This cat not only curates incredible music but he reinterprets the requisite parts in a completely new way. Many DJs will leave energized thinking how they may incorporate some of the blends into their next gigs while other listeners will just have a ton of mixes that will make all of their friends jealous.
This Christmas/Holiday mix is no different as Gazaway deftly incorporates a number of classic and newer standard in completely new ways. He leverages the art of a variety of musicians including the lead off track with Outkast, the tongue in cheek “Back Door Santa” by classic soul artist Rufus Thomas, and even manages to incorporate a little Snoop Dogg into the mix.
