We were so happy to discover this beautiful New York singer recently. While this EP may not be new, it was new to us! Bridget Kelly was signed to Roc Nation in 2010 and has been in the studio and doing select shows for a while and could be ready to blow any day now. Earlier this Fall, she performed at the legendary SOB’s and sang several songs from this EP as well as her new single [amazon_link id=”B009IQ4AVW” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Special Delivery[/amazon_link].
Every Girl, released last year, is a suberb first record and showcases her skill as singer and ability to select songs that speak to her as a woman. We really enjoyed the production and arrangements on this record, which were mostly handled by Shea Taylor. The melodies are sweet in all the right places and the instrumentation nicely supports her mid-range vocal sensibilities. Is she the next Patti Labelle? No. But the reality is she is not trying to be. For the most part, she stays in her lane vocally. Overall, this EP combines several strong songs (some with a decidedly pop appeal), great visuals and tight grooves, all of which we LOVE!
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has made some significant investments in this artists’ future. With songs by Frank Ocean (including the original version of his Grammy nominated Thinking Bout You), James Fauntleroy II, The Dream and Ne-Yo, Bridget Kelly is clearly in good hit making company and has all the requisite parts in place. Watch out World!
