Description from the Corcoran Gallery:
Gray, an experimental musical outfit originally conceived by artists Michael Holman and Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1979, resurfaced last year with the release of Gray…Shades of, an album complete with 27 original tracks (some of which feature original dialogue by Basquiat). In the words of GQs Glenn OBrien, Gray’s approach to music was having heard music, to approach instruments and sound systems the way one would pick up a strange machine and try to intuit its operation and function. Holman and others re-create the experience of this short-lived but legendary group. A reception follows.
