On Sunday, June 17, Ab-Soul, one-fourth of Black Hippy, will be performing along with some very special guest at the New Parish in uptown Oakland. Soul hails from the same camp as Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock and thus, expectations run high for the standout MC from Carson, CA… Soul’s sound is distinct yet apparently apart of the ‘New West’. What makes Soul different is not only his ability to pen thought provoking tracks like “Terrorist Threats” featuring Jhené Aiko and Danny Brown and “A Rebellion” featuring his former girlfriend, the late Alori Joh, that make force listeners to take a critical look at the world they live in but to create bass heavy tracks, with ScHoolboy Q, like “Druggys Wit Hoes” and “Druggys Wit Hoes Again” strictly for the purpose of getting hyped for the night.– TML & SHP

From backwoods barbecues and community gatherings; Allen Stone emerges to share personal melodies, telling his tales of life after just 24 years. Getting his start singing at his father’s church in small-town America; it wasn’t until later when introduced to the greats of soul music (Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin) and then to the confessional lyrical fashion of the 60’s -70’s singer/ songwriters, did music begin to ignite intense passion, eventually carrying this boy to a musical home. –allenstone.com

The San Francisco Bay Area’s underground music scene covers a tremendous breadth of styles and artists.  What they share is a love of improvisation, and of new or unusual compositions and sound-making techniques. Coming out of genres as diverse as jazz, electronic, new classical composition, world, hip-hop, and metal, to name but a few, the performing artists are led by their desire to learn and impart something new about music.  The Bay Area new music scene often works outside of traditional venues, creating special environments for new kinds of sound.  Outsound volunteer curators are dedicated to presenting the cutting edge of sound and music composition and performance. — ONMS

The Lounge On The Farm’s history, like so many romantic tales, begins with a number scribbled on the back of a fag packet. A chance meeting between ‘Lounge Original’ Sean and the son of a farmer as they watched a band perform aboard a flat bed lorry in the middle of Canterbury in the spring of 2004 is where it all began. Ideas were exchanged. A telephone number was hastily jotted on a pack of Marlboro’s. And the rest as they say is history!– MFJ

Clarence Clemons took the stage in 1994 and helped kick off what would become Canada’s fastest growing celebration of Blues and Roots music.
