This new artist just recently came to our attention. We actually dig the mix of R&B and Pop from this fresh (and very beautifully exotic) face. In the tradition of other Asian songstresses who have made a mark on the soul scene (e.g. Monday Michiru, Little Dragon‘s Yukimi-Nagano), this release really proves that soul is colorblind! Baiyu (born Baiyu Chen in Xiamen, China) is a Chinese-American singer-songwriter and actress. In the early 90′s, her family moved to Maryland where she was then given the American name of “Sara”. Baiyu has appeared in several independent films, worked with Seventeen Magazine and was a VJ for the mtvU show “The Freshmen” from 2006-2008. She later graduated from Princeton University in 2008 with a degree in Sociology. Full bio here.
